Hook Bent

A one-eyed fisher and Slackline tavern regular who fought drunk in the Blood Bond Tournament — exactly as everyone expected him to.

Appearance

Grizzled one-eyed man with a hooked hand (lost the original to a mooring line accident years ago). Reeked of fish, salt, and cheap drink. His good eye was permanently bloodshot, and his hook hand was rusty but sharp.

The Regular

Hook Bent was a fixture at The Slackline tavern. He’d stagger in most evenings, drink until he couldn’t stand, tell the same fishing stories, and eventually get thrown out or pass out under a table.

Everyone knew him. Most people avoided him. He was mean when drunk — which was always.

The Tournament

Hook Bent entered the Blood Bond Tournament drunk. No one knows why — a bet, a dare, or just drunken bravado. He fought with his hook hand and a gutting knife.

In Round 1, someone (probably the party) blinded him with oil or flash-powder. Blind, drunk, and furious, he swung wildly until Declan slipped past his guard and put him down.

He died in the arena, probably not even knowing who killed him.

What People Remember

  • That he fought drunk and nearly took someone with him anyway
  • His one good eye and that rusty hook
  • The story about how he lost his hand — told seventeen different ways depending on how drunk he was
  • That he died exactly how he lived: violent, messy, and pointless

At The Slackline

The tavern is quieter now. Hook Bent’s usual table stays empty most nights — not out of respect, but because no one wants to claim it. Some regulars swear they still smell fish and cheap gin when they walk past.
